Speak Out: Why Should BI-LO Stay?

The company, a fixture in Mauldin for years, is moving its headquarters.

Additionally, there have never been any shortage of rumors about BI-LO and where its long-term future lay with respect to Mauldin. Nevertheless, BI-LO has deep ties to the community and has been generous to many charities throughout the region. In the press release announcing the relocation of company headquarters, BI-LO also made it clear that they plan on keeping a strong presence in the Upstate. What is less clear are the specifics of that presence. Patch was told by sources that negotiations about BI-LO's presence in the Upstate are still taking…

Bi-Lo Acquires Winn-Dixie

Stores will keep names under $560 million deal.

Mauldin-based Bi-Lo announced a deal on Monday to acquire struggling grocer Winn-Dixie in a $560 million deal that adds 690 stores and 63,000 employees to Bi-Lo's offerings. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn Dixie pulled out of South Carolina and four other southern states in 2005 as it grappled with increased competition in the grocery business. The merger greatly adds to Bi-Lo's footprint. Winn-Dixie, even with its struggles in recent years, has held a major presence in Florida for nearly 80 years. That's a market in which Bi-Lo offers no stores. “With no overlap in our markets, the combined company will have a perfect geographic fit that will create a stronger platform from which to provide our customers great products at a great value, …

I have worked for both of these companies in the past. WD employees can expect many store closings as BI-LO will not operate to the old school standards of WD.   more ›
