Candidates' fundraising totals
As the Republican presidential primary comes to South Carolina much will be made about fundraising and its importance in determining the winner. Fundraising is just as important in local elections, as the final campaign reports, which were posted yesterday, indicate. They can be found in more detail at the website of the South Carolina State Ethics Commission HERE. Candidates filed their final contribution and expense reports on Jan. 10. Some of the highlights: The winner of City Council Seat Six, Larry Goodson, raised $3,430.26 compared to $400 raised by the man he defeated, incumbent Michael Reynolds. Of Goodson's total funds raised, $508.56 came from his own pockets, $694.80 came from former Mauldin Mayor Wayne Crick or Crick's company …

Polling locations the same as Nov. 8
Mauldin and Simpsonville voters will return to the polls tomorrow for the run-off election for Mauldin City Council Seat 6. The race is between incumbent Michael Reynolds and challenger Larry Goodson. In Simpsonville, voters there will choose their mayor from either Tammy Bagwell or Perry Eichor. Neither race was decided when voters first went to the polls two weeks ago. In the general election on Nov. 8, Dennis Raines soundly defeated incumbent Don Godbey in the mayoral race. Scott Crosby edged out incumbent James Kennedy for Seat 4. Goodson won 48.6 percent of the vote against Reynolds and Nantambu Calhoun. He needed 50 percent plus one to avoid a run-off. Reynolds' second-place finish assured him a spot in the run-off. The run-offs in …

Taking place in Mauldin and Simpsonville on Tuesday
The run-off elections taking place on Tuesday in Mauldin and Simpsonville will cost taxpayers in Greenville County approximately $7,000, or $3,500 for each race. According to Conway Belangia, Director of Voter Registration & Elections for Greenville County, the costs are result of the programming of machines, staff time, overtime, and the counting of any absentee ballots. The run-off in Mauldin is between Michael Reynolds and Larry Goodson for City Council Seat 6. In Simpsonville, the race is for mayor and it's between Perry Eichor and Tammy Bagwell.

UPDATE: Challenger Scott Crosby has defeated James Kennedy in the race for Mauldin City Council Seat 4 by a total of 31 votes, 984-953. Director of Voter Registration & Elections for Greenville County Conway Belangia said that the margin is outside the 1 percent (or 19 votes) that would have mandated a county-sanctioned recount. Kennedy told Mauldin Patch he did not plan to ask for a recount. He would have had to provide proof of 31 examples of errors according to Belangia. The election will be certified on Friday at noon. The Seat 6 City Council run-off will be on November 22 at the same precinct locations as yesterday's vote. Turnout for the races was a higher-than-expected 13.2 percent. --------------------------- While Mauldin’s …
Race was decided shortly after polls closed
Challenger Dennis Raines scored a convincing victory in Mauldin’s mayoral election on Tuesday evening. Unofficial totals showed Raines winning approximately 60 percent of the vote. A half hour after polls closed, incumbent Don Godbey conceded to Raines, who is an administrator at First Baptist Church and founder of the Mauldin Miracle League. Godbey told his disappointed supporters, "I treasure the support I've received. I've thoroughly enjoyed my four years as Mayor and my six years on city council." In remarks that caused him to become emotional, Godbey added, “The diversity here — young, old, white, black, Hispanic — there is a lot of strength in that and I’m proud to have played a part in bringing people together.” Godbey encouraged …

Fiona, please take a look at the sign above if you want to see mud slinging. Mr. Goodson was part of that campaign negativity, which was false information I might add. The information in my statements above are facts and they are available for the public should anyone question my comments. And I don't believe it's best for you to assume I do not pray for public officials.   more ›
