Break out your boogie shoes. Greenville blues legend, Mac Arnold, returns to the Mauldin Cultural Center for a free concert on Friday, May 17 at 7:30 pm with his band, Plate Full O' Blues. Riding on the heels of a sold-out performance last year, Mac and his band are back in Mauldin as a part of the Mauldin Cultural Center's popular Railroad Concert Series. The concert will be in the Mauldin Cultural Center's Outdoor Amphitheater located in the rear of the Center at 101 East Butler Road. Want to help to help out folks in Boston but not sure how? One pace to start is at this Friday's concert at the Mauldin Cultural Center. The concert featuring Betsy Franck & the Bareknuckle Band will still be free, but MCC executive director George patrick McLeer said Tuesday the MCC is highly encouraging concertgoers to donate to the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts and the Boston Athletic Association (operators of the Boston Marathon) to support their efforts in wake of the bombings during the Boston Marathon. Fun classes for kids and adults from the university's continuing education office start at the MCC beginning next week.
Furman Learning for You, a continuing education program at Furman University for youth and adults, has a slate of classes coming up at the Mauldin Cultural Center. MCC thrilled to have life-saving device on hand, director says.
Nathaniel Stafford, a scout with Troop 725 chartered at Christ Community Church in Simpsonville, presented the Mauldin Cultural Center this week with a state-of-the-art AED (Automated External Defibrillator) during a regular meeting of the Mauldin Lions Club. Stafford, a freshman at Mauldin High School, was awarded two AEDs in 2010 from Cardiac Science, a medical device company headquartered in Wisconsin through a partnership between the Boy Scouts of America and their company. Scouts were invited to create videos educating the public on the importance of AEDs. Nathan's video was selected as one of the winners and he donated one AED to an organization in his community in North Carolina where he lived before relocating to the Upstate. The …

Approximately 300 runners and walkers descended on the Mauldin Cultural Center for the 4th Annual Peacock Strides for Babies on Saturday. The family fun run and 5K, which also included a silent auction, raised approximately $30,000 for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) research, said Jodi Ware, the Mauldin mother of 5-month-old Emily "Peacock" Ware, who passed away from SIDS in 2009 and for whom the race is named. Ware said since the race's inception it has raised $150,000 for the CJ Foundation, a New Jersey-based nonprofit. The stated goal of the organization is eliminating the tragedy of sudden unexpected infant deaths and early childhood deaths, supporting grieving families, advancing medical research, furthering parent and …

SIDS benefit race and festivities kick off at 8:30 a.m. at Mauldin Cultural Center.
The Peacock Strides for Babies 1-mile Family Fun Run and 5K will commence Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Mauldin Cultural Center. Hundreds of racers of all ages and skill levels are expected to participate in the fourth annual event. The race proceeds will benefit the New Jersey-based CJ Foundation, a national non-profit devoted to eliminating the tragedy of sudden unexpected infant deaths and early childhood deaths, supporting grieving families, advancing medical research, furthering parent and professional education, and advocating for the health and survival of all children. Comedian James Gregory will make a stop at the Mauldin Cultural Center next week.
A uniquely Southern brand of observational comedy and story-telling will be on display next week when "America's Funniest Man" James Gregory hits the stage at the Mauldin Cultural Center on Thursday, February 28 at 7 p.m. The Georgia-born stand-up comic performed his first paid show in South Carolina more than 20 years ago. In the time since, Gregory has amassed a nationwide following built largely on the strength of his tireless touring and intimate stage shows. Up-and-coming musician will make a Valentine's Day weekend appearance.
The Mauldin Cultural Center's 2013 Railroad Concert Series continues on Friday, February 15 with a Valentine's Day weekend performance from Hartsville-based musician Dylan Sneed at 7:30pm in the MCC Auditorium.
