Money will benefit local and regional nonprofits.
BI-LO customers donated $399,382.44 to 12 local and regional nonprofit organizations within the grocer’s operating area during a six-week period when making grocery purchases, the grocer announced. The BI-LO community donation program invited customers to donate at any store register from Feb. 20 to April 2. Grocer's fourth annual PAWS "Feed the Love" campaign runs through April 30.
Beginning today through Tuesday, April 30, BI-LO will host its fourth annual PAWS “Feed the Love” campaign. “Feed the Love” is a pet food drive in which food donations go to local-area food banks for families in need to be able to provide food for the four-legged members of their families. Shoppers can purchase a $5 bag of pet food with the MY BI-LO BONUSCARD, and the food will be picked up by or delivered to the store’s food bank partner. The bag contains a week’s worth of dry and canned packages of PAWS Premium, BI-LO’s own brand of cat and dog food. Greenville police have arrested a man who attempted to steal meat from an Upstate grocery store and also assaulted a store employee. Fredrick Baker has been charged with strong armed robbery and assault and battery third degree after he attempted to conceal packages of rib-eye steaks under his clothes Tuesday while at BI-LO at 1315 S. Pleasantburg Drive, near the intersection of Mauldin Road. Police said a store employee witnessed Baker concealing the items and tried to stop Baker from leaving the store. Baker dropped the steaks and attempted to leave the store when the employee blocked the door, according to an incident report. Anthea Jones will run grocery chains operations from its Maudlin corporate center.
BI-LO recently elevated industry veteran Anthea Jones to president of the chain, which was acquired last year by Winn-Dixie, according to The Shelby Report. Though the bulk of corporate operations has moved to Winn-Dixie headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla., Jones will continue to work out of the chain's Mauldin operations center. In addition to the new post, Jones will continue as BI-LO's senior vice president of operations. Jones joined BI-LO in 1999 after a 17-year stint at Food Lion. Before being promoted to SVP of operations and president earlier this year, he was BI-LO’s SVP of store operations. He had held a number of other positions with BI-LO prior to that. With gas prices climbing for 33 straight days to a four-month high, BI-LO said it is adding more grocery items as part of its fuelperks! rewards program. The expanded program includes hundreds of additional grocery items that will help the grocery chain’s BonusCard customers rack up from 5 to 50 cents per gallon per item, the Mauldin-based grocer announced. Suspect also shot by alleged victim after trying to rob him in BI-LO parking lot.
A man is in jail after he tried to rob another man — and was subsequently shot by the alleged victim — in the parking lot of the BI-LO store in Mauldin, police said. Ansel Leedale Smith, Jr., 24, of Mauldin faces charges of armed robbery, possessing a weapon while committing a violent crime, and pointing and presenting a firearm, stemming from an incident that occurred Sunday afternoon at the BI-LO at 207 West Butler Road, according to Mauldin Police Det. Thanks to its acquisition earlier this year of Winn-Dixie, Mauldin-based BI-LO Holdings, Inc., has become one of the nation's largest retailers. In a ranking by the national trade journal, Chain Store Age, BI-LO made the Top 100 list for the first time ever, coming in at number 79. Unsurprisingly, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., with thousands of stores around the globe, came out on top, according to a report by the Jacksonville Business Journal. The Mexican-grown fruit may be contaminated with salmonella.
BI-LO announced an immediate voluntary recall on whole Daniella brand mangoes sold with a universal product code (UPC) of 0-00000-04051 in stores between July 12 and Aug. 27, 2012. The recalled mangoes, a product of Mexico, were sold as individual fruit and can be identified by the Daniella brand sticker. The product is being recalled in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee due to a potential health risk from possible contamination with Salmonella Braenderup. Shoppers can receive three levels of this year's flu vaccine at in-store pharmacies.
To encourage people to protect their health, BI-LO kicked off its "Shield Yourself" flu vaccination campaign today, offering three different options of this year's influenza vaccine to help shield shoppers from the flu. Customers at any of the grocer's in-store pharmacies can choose from the standard vaccination, a high dose vaccine recommended for those 65 and older, or an Intradermal flu vaccination administered with a microneedle that is 90 percent smaller than traditional needles. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a yearly vaccination provides the best protection throughout flu season.
