"Trains, Trains & More Trains" Exhibit Underway in Mauldin

The yearly, interactive model train show, one of the nation's largest, is being held at the Mauldin Cultural Center.

For the next two weekends the auditorium of the Mauldin Cultural Center will play host to the 2013 Mauldin train exhibit, "Trains, Trains & More Trains."

The Greater Mauldin Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mauldin-sponsored exhibit began Friday and continues today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and again on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The fun continues next weekend, too, Friday, June 7, from Noon to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

There will be four train displays this year, including the largest push-button operated, interactive layout on the East Coast from the Atlantic Coast S Gauge model train club.

The layout features American flyer trains from the 1940s and 1950s, along with operating accessories. Come see the new Piedmont 'N Southern Modular N Scale layout, too.

Bring out the kids and let them operate the accessories (including saw mill, log loader, barrel loader, outhouse door, etc.). They can also "engineer" the Thomas the Tank Engine train from Thomas's cab.

In addition to the interactive S Guage exhibit, there will also be two other exhibits of N Guage and G Guage trains, as well as an operating steam engine model during the first weekend of the show.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
