Record player registration, visit from Rep. Gowdy highlight 8th season opener.

On Saturday, the Mauldin Miracle League officially opened its eighth season under brilliant sunshine and awash in the smiles of kids who waited all winter to play baseball. The atmosphere was festive as Greenville Drive mascot Reedy, as well as mascots from and were on hand in addition to the dozens of family and friends of the players.

The first pitches were thrown out by Rep. Trey Gowdy and Chuck Church, owner and operator of the Woodruff Road Chick fil-a.

Mauldin Mayor (and Miracle League Founder) Dennis Raines said that player registrations were nearing 100.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Leighann Bagwell, Miss Clemson 2012.

Among all the festivities, the highlight might very well have been a rousing rendition of the National Anthem sung by Mary Kay representative Barbara Brown.
