Mauldin Scout Honored in Washington, DC

Visited nation's capital last month for recognition as part of Prudential Spirit of Community.

Last month, Mauldin teen Nathaniel Stafford was among a select few of young people to be invited to Washington, DC as a State Honoree in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

While there, Nathaniel rubbed elbows with his state's senators and NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning (see photos).

Nathaniel was feted for his work with Trek4Nets, a program that raised money to buy mosquito bed nets for families in Africa to prevent the spread of malaria. He raised more than $10,000 by hiking 100 miles in nine days and volunteering at local restaurants and conducting a coin drive at his school.

But, Nathaniel is not done helping his neighbors, whether they're across the street or across the globe.

He'll work with Gotta Have Sole, a Rhode Island non-profit that helps provide gently used shoes to children's and women's shelters by bringing that program to the Greenville area.

He is also hoping to work with where he would help the boys with basic Scouting skills.

As if that is not enough, later this summer Nathaniel will become an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader with Troop 715 at in Mauldin.
