Younginer Earns First Win

Unflustered by fielding miscues, the Mauldin grad gets his first win.

Madison Younginer probably did not have his best stuff on Monday but it was still good enough for him to garner his first win in 2012 as a member of the Greenville Drive.

Younginer was the winning pitcher in the Drive's 11-6 victory over the Rome Braves at Fluor Field. He pitched five innings and allowed five runs, but only two of those were earned due to throwing errors. Younginer struck out four and walked three in lowering his ERA to 4.85.

The Drive's offense, sleepy thus far in the early part of the season, awoke in fine fashion against Rome. Greenville pounded out 17 hits. Cody Koback homered and drove in three. Garin Cecchini had a double and triple among his three hits and three runs scored. David Renfroe sent home four teammates with two hits.

It was the second straight game the Drive scored 11 runs.

The bullpen was strong behind Younginer with Scott Swinson pitching three scoreless innings and whiffing five.

The Drive close out its homestand and the series with Rome on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. A win would mean a sweep of Rome, a homestand record of 5-2 and an overall record of 14-17.
