After pounding out eight runs on 16 hits against Augusta on Thursday, the Greenville Drive could muster only two runs on four hits on Friday and lost again to the GreenJackets, this time by a count of 3-2. Greenville fell to 6-10 on the season.
Drive starter Miguel Pena pitched well, allowing only one run in five innings of action while striking out four and walking one. Still, he took the loss and is now 1-2 for the campaign.
Greenville was unable to push any runs across until the seventh when they scored two to cut the Augusta lead to 3-2. Lucas LeBlanc doubled home a run and Keury De La Cruz scored on a groundout, but the Drive stranded the tying run in the person of LeBlanc at third.
LeBlanc had two hits to pace the offense.
Greenville plays Augusta again today in the third of a four-game set. First pitch is at 7:05 at Fluor Field and fans in attendance will be able to help the entire Boston Red Sox farm system celebrate the 100th birthday of Fenway Park. Tickets can be purchased at the Drive Web site.
