School Notes: Langston Charter Middle School

Important news and notes from Langston Middle.

Langston Charter Middle School Enrollment Lottery for 2014-15 School Year…Prospective parents must attend one of the three Application Orientation Meetings, as part of the lottery application process: Thursday, September 26 at 7:00PM, Saturday, October 5 at 4:00PM, or Monday, October 28 at 7:00PM and submit an application before the deadline of 4:00 PM, Friday, November 1, 2012.  A lottery of all complete applications will be held on Tuesday, November 12 at 5:00pm at the school and is open to the public.  Parents of former or current students with a sibling planning to enroll for next year must complete the application process before the deadline of November 1.  The application will be posted on the school’s website www.langstoncharter.org beginning September 27.  Call Celanie Martin, Registrar, at 864-286-9700 with questions. 

Non-Profit Fair – On Friday, October 10, Langston Charter Middle School will host its annual Non-Profit Fair.  Local non-profit agencies are invited to come to share the vision of their organization, explain what volunteer opportunities they have for students and recruit students to volunteer with their organization.  As part of the vision and core values of Langston, students are trained to explore service opportunities and learn to be contributors to society.  For more information on the non-profit fair or to register your non-profit to be a part of the fair, contact Langston Director of Campus Affairs, Kelly Weekes, at 864-286-9700.

Library Fundraiser – The Langston Library Committee is currently holding a fundraiser to purchase books for the school library.  To donate, log on to www.funds4books.com and enter code c852.  The fundraiser ends October 14.

Fall Art Classes – Art classes will be offered to Langston students Fridays at Langston from 1:45pm – 2:45pm, September 20 – November 8.  No classes will be held October 18 and 25.  The cost of the 6 week session is $120 and is taught by Susan Wilson from the Art Haven and the Younts Center for the Performing Arts.  To register your child, contact Susan Wilson at susanwilson1@charter.net or 864.616.6483 or 864.963.4478.

Afterschool Clubs – A variety of different afterschool clubs are currently being offered for students.  Running Club meets Wednesdays, 3:30pm – 4:30pm; contact Marty Martin pastor@fellowshippres.org. Speech and Debate Club is being formed; contact Greg Snoad gsnoad@greenville.k12.sc.us.  Drama Club meets Wednesdays, 3:30pm – 4:30 pm; contact susan@heinsromba.com.  Dance Club meets Fridays, 1:40pm – 2:30pm; contact Tiffany Jordan  chachijordan@aol.com.  Glee Club meets Thursdays, 3:30pm – 4:30pm;  contact Julianna Purcell julpurcell@gmail.com.  Young Men of the Round Table Club meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 3:30pm – 4:30pm; contact Cliff Carden cliffcarden@gmail.com or Ben Buisch- benandevie@yahoo.com.
