The Chicora Alley location in Greenville has become one of the downtown’s most popular dining spots since opening in 2003, so it is no surprise the second location’s arrival was greeted with enthusiasm.

But for Bert Dixon, who owns the restaurant with his brother Ben, expanding to Mauldin is more than just a business decision. To Dixon, Mauldin is home.

“I have always considered Mauldin as a stellar place to do business,” Dixon told Patch. “The city has been extremely nice to work with and the other local businesses have embraced us with open arms.”

Chicora Alley’s Mauldin location will be at the northwestern tip of where the proposed City Center would be, but Dixon said his restaurant will not stand in the way of the project. Dixon is hopeful that by the time the City Center plan comes to fruition, Chicora Alley will have outgrown the space.

Dixon said new restaurant will have an expanded children’s menu and aims to offer the best Sunday brunch in Greenville County. “We want it to be a family destination,” Dixon said.

Renovations begin on Tuesday the 29th with the goal of opening on September 23, which would be the 9th anniversary of the Greenville restaurant’s opening.

“It may take a little longer, but keep your fingers crossed!” Dixon said enthusiastically.
