Golden Strip Man Drowns in Lake Hartwell

Alcohol may have contributed to the death, according to Anderson County Coroner.

A Simpsonville man was found drowned in Lake Hartwell, authorities said Sunday.

The victim, found by dive teams, was identified by Anderson County Coroner Don McCown as 45-year-old Robert Scott Batson.

According to media reports, Batson's body was recovered around 9:45 p.m. Saturday after reports that a man had hit his head on a boat and went under at Dock 5 of the Portman Marina in Anderson County.

The coroner reportedly said Batson had been at the Clemson game earlier in the day and went to the marina with his brother. The two were reportedly at the dock when Batson fell in the water and didn't emerge.

McCown said alcohol may have contributed to the death, and an autopsy has been scheduled, according to Fox Carolina.
