Obituary: Steve Bruce Tate Sr. of Mauldin

Funeral service today in the chapel of New Hope Baptist Church.

Steve Bruce Tate, Sr., 78, husband of 59 years to Pasty Dobbins Tate, passed away Wednesday March 20, 2013.

Mr. Tate was born December 19, 1934 in Cliffside, NC to the late Paul Edgar Tate and Roberta Hamrick Tate. He was raised by paternal grandparents, Charlie and Vernan Tate. He played football for Furman University and coached little league football and served as a referee for Greenville County high school football. He worked as a masonry contractor for many years, retired later from 3M, and was a driver for Hertz. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He was a huge history buff and great story teller. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served on the building committee, served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. 

Surviving in addition to his wife Patsy, are two sons, Bruce Tate and wife Sandra "Sam", and Barry Tate and wife Robin; daughter, Tami Wall and husband Tom; sister, Jobie Rivera and husband Pepe; four grandchildren, Barry "BJ" Tate, Casey Kirby, Kirk Tate and Cody Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Heidi, Riley and Hudson Tate, Enaiah Kirby and an additional baby Tate is on the way. 

Family will receive friends 12-2p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with funeral services to follow 2p.m. in the Chapel of New Hope Baptist Church. Burial with be at Graceland East Cemetery. The family will be at the home.
