Obituary: Marie Garrett Addis

Funeral service for the Mauldin native will be held Tuesday at Calvary First Baptist Church.

Marie Garrett Addis, 92, wife of the late Johnnie A. Addis, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at McCall Hospice House following a brief illness. 

She was born on October 3, 1920 in Mauldin, SC to the late Arthur Garrett Sr. and Myrtle Rodgers Garrett.

Mrs. Addis was the last surviving charter member of Calvary First Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, WMU director, and many other organizations as long as her health permitted. She was also a long time member of the NALC Ladies Auxiliary, and a 1938 graduate of Parker High School. 

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Ted Floyd of Columbia, Becky and Tommy Ross of Greenville; sons and daughter-in-law, Jim and Judy Addis and Bob Addis of Greenville; grandchildren and spouses, Kelly and Thomas Bell, Kim Foster, John Ross, Keri Floyd, Krista and Scott McRee, Baron Addis, and Faith and Jamie Lowe; great- grandchildren, Cole Foster, Zack and Camden Lowe, Ansley, Graham, and Henry Addis.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Addis was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Robinson and a brother Arthur Garrett Jr.

The family expresses sincere gratitude for the loving care that the staff of NHC Mauldin provided to Mrs. Addis for the last nine years and to McCall Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VISION Fund, Calvary First Baptist Church, 11 Tampa St., Greenville, SC 29609. 

The Funeral Service will be at Calvary First Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Roger Plemmons, Rev. Buddy Miller, and Dan Schaffner on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Visitation prior from 12:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. 

Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
