'Secret Santas' Pay Off Strangers' Bills at Kmart

Christmas cheer alive and well at the big box store in Mauldin

A growing phenomenon of kindness that has appeared in other parts of the country has made its way to Mauldin.

As elsewhere, employees at Kmart said customers have learned that their layaway bills were paid in full by complete strangers. Stephanie Fawbush in the layaway department at the said that in the last week at least four customers have had their layaway bills paid in full by people they did not know. She also said that a man gave $100 bills to women who were waiting in line earlier this week.

“I wish it happened more often, “ Fawbush said. “It really makes me feel good.”

There is no word if the efforts to pay the bills have been organized or if other big box stores have reported similar experiences. But, occurrences .

The Kmart on West Butler Road is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
