Blues Legend Mac Arnold Returns to the MCC

Mac and his band, Plate Full O' Blues," will play the Mauldin Cultural Center May 17.

Break out your boogie shoes.

Greenville blues legend, Mac Arnold, returns to the Mauldin Cultural Center for a free concert on Friday, May 17 at 7:30 pm with his band, Plate Full O' Blues.

Riding on the heels of a sold-out performance last year, Mac and his band are back in Mauldin as a part of the Mauldin Cultural Center's popular Railroad Concert Series.

The concert will be in the Mauldin Cultural Center's Outdoor Amphitheater located in the rear of the Center at 101 East Butler Road. The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets (no alcohol), and a small donation to support the Cultural Center. Rain location will be MCC's Auditorium.

Teaming up with the Mauldin Cultural Center is the St. Joseph's Catholic School Fine Arts Department, whose students will be lending their hands in the coordination of the concert. All donations received from the concert will be shared among the Mauldin Cultural Center and the School's Fine Arts Department in an effort to support the arts in local classrooms.

If you're not familiar with Mac Arnold, his resume is awe-inspiring.

Arnold’s first band included James Brown on piano. Mac moved to Chicago and Muddy Waters hired him on the spot. He toured and recorded with the Muddy Waters Band and recorded LPs with Otis Spann and John Lee Hooker.

Mac moved to Los Angeles and produced Soul Train with his friend Don Cornelius. He even played bass on the Sanford & Son television show when he wasn't playing bass for Otis Redding and B.B. King.

After a brief retirement to farm, Arnold returned to the stage with his own band, “Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues." The band consists of Danny Keylon on bass and vocals, Austin Brashier on guitar and vocals, Max Hightower on keyboards, harmonica, guitar, and vocals, Mike Whitt on drums, and Mac Arnold on vocals, bass and Gas Can Guitars.
