TV Show to Shut Down Southern Connector Toll Road

Starting Sunday, filming of Cinemax TV series will shut down the toll road through April 24.

Commuters who use the Southern Connector toll road will need to search for an alternate route come this Sunday when the Cinemax cable TV series Banshee comes to the area for a film shoot. Connector officials confirm the nearly 18-mile toll road will shut at 10 pm. Sunday until 10 p.m. April 24 to film a segment for the pay-TV series, WSPA reported. The road, also known as Interstate 185, will be barricaded and secured by law enforcement officers. The closure could affect as many as 14,000 drivers daily, the station reported. Banshee premiered on Cinemax earlier this year and is about an enigmatic ex-con posing as a murdered sheriff who imposes his own brand of justice while also cooking up plans that serve his own interests. Song has stirred up controversy in recent weeks.

It’s been talked about on The View and Conan, spoofed on Saturday Night Live and lit up message boards for the better part of two weeks. It’s the song by country music star Brad Paisley called “Accidental Racist.” Paisley is joined in the song by rapper/actor LL Cool J as they both reference symbols of racism, such as the confederate In interviews such as the one above, Paisley has said the song is a plea to make racism a thing of the past. C.J. Spiller Lends Voice to "Family Guy"

Former Clemson star and NFL running back records voice-over for the popular Fox TV show.

Fans of former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller and the TV show, "Family Guy," will get a special treat this upcoming season. The Buffalo Bills rusher said he recently recorded a voice-over for the often raunchy and popular Fox TV animated show, according to a report by TigersNow.com. Spiller recorded the voice-over Tuesday morning. “I haven’t really watched the show,” Spiller said during a chat with WGR radio in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday. “So I guess since I’m doing that one I’ll watch and see how it turned out.” Spiller said he got asked a week or so ago to read what he said was "a little thing that they'll use in a scene." Viva Les Divas Show Coming to Mauldin

Talented duo and multi-instrumentalist Dale Burke will tackle several musical genres at April 20 show at the Mauldin Cultural Center.

Betsy Franck & The BareKnuckle Band to Perform in Mauldin

Show set for April 19 at the Mauldin Cultural Center's outdoor amphitheater.

Betsy Franck & the BareKnuckle Band, a blues/rock band from Athens, Ga., opens the first of many outdoor concerts at the Mauldin Cultural Center on Friday, April 19 at 7:30pm.  Lead singer, Betsy Franck, is known around the southeast for her blues and gospel infused vocal stylings paired with the immense talent behind her on stage in the BareKnuckle Band, said MCC executive director George Patrick McLeer. 'Furman Learning for You' Classes Coming to Mauldin Cultural Center

Fun classes for kids and adults from the university's continuing education office start at the MCC beginning next week.

Furman Learning for You, a continuing education program at Furman University for youth and adults, has a slate of classes coming up at the Mauldin Cultural Center.  The classes are: — Beginning Knitting, 6:3-8:30 p.m. April 9, 16 and 23. Selfless Scout Donates Defibrillator to Mauldin Cultural Center

MCC thrilled to have life-saving device on hand, director says.

Nathaniel Stafford, a scout with Troop 725 chartered at Christ Community Church in Simpsonville, presented the Mauldin Cultural Center this week with a state-of-the-art AED (Automated External Defibrillator) during a regular meeting of the Mauldin Lions Club. Stafford, a freshman at Mauldin High School, was awarded two AEDs in 2010 from Cardiac Science, a medical device company headquartered in Wisconsin through a partnership between the Boy Scouts of America and their company. Scouts were invited to create videos educating the public on the importance of AEDs. Nathan's video was selected as one of the winners and he donated one AED to an organization in his community in North Carolina where he lived before relocating to the Upstate. The …

Mauldin Gets First-Ever Year-Round Theatre Program

Program comes through collaboration of Mauldin Cultural Center and new Upstate theatre company.

Local thespians, rejoice. The Mauldin Cultural Center announced it has formed a collaboration with American Callboard to expand its programming offerings to include a year-round theatre program beginning this summer. The new program will include two summer camps for children plus three full productions over the course of the year. The program will be managed by the Mauldin Cultural Center with all production-related needs such as directing, casting, and set construction to be handled by American Callboard. “We are very excited about this new collaboration with American Callboard.
