Ride to Tackle State's Highest Point

"Attack on Sassafras" ride planned for October 13. Local cycling enthusiasts need to act soon. Event sponsor will limit the number of riders.

Cyclists here and throughout the Upstate have been tackling area mountains, and another opportunity is coming up in October.

Some participants in the recent , a fundraiser for local and international mission efforts, took the options that brought them to the top of Caesar's Head.

Efforts are underway for a ride that will give participants the opportunity to make it to the top of the highest point in South Carolina.

The “Attack on Sassafras” ride will be held on October 13, 2012.

The ride will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Easley Campus of Tri-County Technical College.

The “Attack the Sassafras” ride is a 70-mile ride to the top of Sassafras Mountain in Northern Pickens County. On clear days, Sassafras offers visitors a view of South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

The registration fee is $45 and the deadline to register is 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. The fee includes a T-shirt and a post race meal.

After riders finish the “Attack," they'll have the choice of returning to the Easley Campus via SAG vehicles, or returning down the mountain and back to Easley by bicycle.

Support and Gear vehicles will be provided by event staff. No personal Support and Gear vehicles will be allowed.

Organizers ask that riders be aware that the ride will most likely take all day.
