Officer Fired After Posting About Dabo Swinney's Speeding Ticket

A Pickens police officer used a department computer to post details of the traffic stop online.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was ticketed for speeding, but it's the cop who detailed the traffic stop on the internet who is in trouble.

Yahoo news reports that Swinney was ticketed by Pickens Police Department on Sept. 3 for driving 63 mph in a 35 mph zone on his way to his radio show.

On Sept. 14, Officer Michael McClatchy used a department computer to post the details of the traffic stop online. McClatchy has been fired from the department, according to the Associated Press.

Check out the dashcam video from Officer McClatchy's patrol car obtained by the Pickens County Courier above.

What did the cop expect? He violated the rules about publishing the video. He deserved what he got. Dabo had NOTHING to do with it! He was giving a speeding ticket! I wonder what would have happened if the video of the football coach at South Carolina urinating on main street in Greenville was published? Strange how this came out on the night before our first big ACC game. Maybe the cop was promised a job on the police force at Carolina.........

SC Lawmakers are feminized, this officer would be better off getting a man's job since part of one's oath includes "I Swear To Uphold And Protect The United States Constitution Against Enemies Both Foreign And Domestic.... So Help Me God" with the word "Domestic" being underlined as South Carolina does not permit open carry making South Carolina Law Makers Feminized persons.

The good ole boys system is alive and well in Pickens. You can See Swinney get his cell phone and make a call, then shortly the manager of Bi-Lo comes out to tell the policeman "a city official wants to speak to him. How hard is that to figure out?

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Dabo Swinney put himself above the law by speeding! How many people get stopped by Police and immediately get out of the vehicle to approach the officer? I am very surprised that the officer did not use his tazer on them not knowing if they meant him any harm. Nice roll model Dabo!

I think this is yet another one if those "Money Talks" situations. NUMBER ONE....it has been brought to my attention that the officer was fired over using the computer/internet at work....do you know how many folks use the computer/internet at work for non work-related purposes? Maybe Dabo should have handled his "ticket" like a man...paid it...and been done with it...the fact that he was driving that fast Is crazy...he could have collided with someone or hit a child....I'm sorry but my child and my safety is far more important than some dumb radio talk show. NO...I'M NOT A SOUR FOOTBALL FAN...I HATE FOOTBALL...I'm just speaking the truth....This officer did not deserve to loose his job....I hope Dabo is sleeping well at night knowing he ruined someone's career.

Wonder what would happen if I ignored an officer's instructions to get in the truck and wait ( not once but twice)?

Even if the officer did make a bad judgement call on getting his side of the story out to the public (yep that was BEYOND stupid...) he definitely does not deserve to lose his job over it. There needs to be some housecleaning in the police department (police chief for firing him and manufacturing something as bogus as him being the only person known in the department for posting online - PLEASE.. that happens every day in any office and wanting to do a favor for a man you can more than pay the fine...) and the mayor (for trying to sweep it under the rug. I wonder how many free season passes that would have gotten him and his cronies?). Anyone else would have had to pay at least half of the ticket and lose points. It was crystal clear that he was speeding. This police officer was doing his job, following procedure and showed that he will not bend the rules for ANYONE. We need more on the police force like this man and less of the idiots playing politics by handing out undeserved favors to people of influence. This is an embarrassment on so many levels and quite sad. Dabo Swinney needs to come clean and make sure this office gets his job back or a transfer to another police department. I can't blame him for not wanting to return to Easley!

I like this comment with the exception of beyond stupid, one very popular video on YouTube is where the SC Trooper pulled over the Governor on I-85 for running 85 mph but it wasn't the Governor driving it was his chauffeur and no ticket came out of that deal, just a handshake with the guverner.... Made me think people that don't live on this planet are the ones making the rules, glad I don't drive for a living anymore
