Lights Display a Mauldin Tradition

Event gets bigger each year

To state the obvious, Mauldin resident Tommy Sosebee loves Christmas. He's demonstrated his love for the past decade with one of the most impressive Christmas lights displays you will ever see. We think you'll enjoy the videos we've posted, but the best way to enjoy the lights display is to visit 106 Shearbrook Drive. It's in the Butler Station development with hot chocolate and popcorn being served.

The lights will be on display through January 1, Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free but donations are accepted.

  • Tommy has been hosting the display for about ten years and gets plenty of help from his friend Tony Smith as well as numerous family members, neighbors and friends.
  • Preparations begin in October for the display to open in early December.
  • There are at least 250,000 lights in all. Tommy says they started at 100,000 but have since lost official count.
  • The power bill runs at about $2,600 while the lights are up.
  • Last year the display won Fox Faves on FoxCarolina for Best Holiday Lights Display.
  • There is a 21 foot Mega Tree and the lights for the entire display are operated by a 16 channel computerized controller. The controller is essential to the continual stream of Christmas music, making it a truly multimedia experience.
