Mauldin Man Killed on I-85

Man struck by truck along the freeway Tuesday night.

A Mauldin man died Tuesday after he was struck by a truck along Interstate 85.

David J. Barwick, 20, of 101 Lanier Dr., was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m., said Mike Ellis, chief deputy coroner for Greenville County.

Barwick was on the side of the road with his mother when he was struck by a tractor trailer hauling cars.

Reportedly, Barwick and his mother were checking the condition of their car shortly before the incident happened.

Investigators are still trying to figure exactly what led to Barwick's death. They plan to re-interview Barwick's mother and delve into his background and hopefully figure out what might have motivated him to walk or dart into oncoming traffic, Ellis told the Greenville News.
