Mauldin High's Football Coach Doug Shaw Leaving Mavericks

Shaw has accepted job as head football coach and athletic director at Palmetto High in Williamston.

Mauldin High School head football coach, assistant athletic director and PE teacher, Doug Shaw, is leaving the school, it was announced Friday.

Shaw has been named athletic director and head football coach for Palmetto High School in Williamston in Anderson County. He is slated to begin work July 1, a news release said.

The coach and educator has been at Mauldin High for seven years, and was named the Big 16 Upstate Coach of the Year in 2009 when the Mavericks went 10-3.

Said Shaw: “I am very excited to be coming to Palmetto High. My previous coaching jobs have been very rewarding. I have tried to instill in the young men what it takes to be successful, not only on the field of play, but in the real world as well.

"This position holds the responsibility of developing young men as well as football players," Shaw said in a news release. "I learned from the best, my father, athletic director and head football coach for 25 years, and I saw the time and commitment that it takes to fill this position. I look forward to the opportunity of working with the athletic program at Palmetto High.”

Palmetto High, which competes in the Western 3A region, compiled a 36-40 record the past seven years under coach Jody LeCroy. In the same time period at Mauldin, Shaw compiled a 36-46 record, following coaching stints at Carolina High, North Myrtle Beach High, and Myrtle Beach High, where Shaw's father won numerous state championships and conference titles.

“I am very excited to have coach Doug Shaw join our team at Palmetto High,” said Palmetto principal Ray Callaham. “He is a proven coach with a record of improving teams wherever he has been. He places high importance on the development of not only the skills of student athletes but their character development.”
