Langston Relay for Life Pep Rally

Friday, May 18 was a day of celebration at Langston Charter Middle School for all the hard work done throughout the school year to raise money for Relay for Life, the main fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Throughout the school year, students planned and executed bake sales, car washes, volleyball tournaments, basketball tournaments, handmade jewelry sales, raffles, and they even donated money from their piggy banks to raise money for Relay for Life.

At the Pep Relay, fourteen boys for Locks of Love. The first five students to raise $100 had that amount matched by Lisa Stevens, Langston School Board Chairman and a two-time cancer survivor. Langston English teacher, John English, and Langston Math teacher, Elaine Steiner also had their hair shaved and cut. A watermelon eating contest was held to promote good eating habits, a balloon blowing contest was held to promote taking care of the lungs, and the Langston Dance Club and Langston Glee Club performed to promote exercise and making healthy choices with free time. The Langston Relay for Life Pep Rally celebrated the enormous effort that students, teachers, staff, and parents put forth this year to support the American Cancer Society’s goal to find a cure for cancer.  In all, the students raised over $8,000 for cancer research!
