Curtis Loftis Brings Palmetto Payback to Mauldin Today
Millions of dollars in unclaimed property being offered across the state.
South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis will be in Mauldin on Friday and he'll be looking to give away some money.
It's all perfectly legal since Loftis will be stopping at Smitty's on E. Butler Rd. to see if any residents are owed some of the $300 million in unclaimed property that was uncovered recently. Loftis will be hosted by Sen. David Thomas from District 8.
Loftis began the Palmetto Payback Hometown Tour after discovered the millions and 23 of the state's lawmakers realized they had unclaimed property.
"I want to make sure my constituents get their money,” Sen. Thomas said. “It is a pleasure to welcome Treasurer Loftis and this important program to the Upstate. I hope we can find many constituent names on the list during the event.”
“It will be a pleasure to meet with Sen. Thomas and bring this program directly to the people,” Treasurer Loftis said. “We are taking an old program and using new approaches to engage the public and return money to the rightful owners. Each time we get out of the office and go to the people, we end up having several claims.
The event starts at 5 p.m. and is not limited to Mauldin residents or constituents of District 8. You can check the unclaimed property database by clicking here.
