BI-LO, Coke Donate 60k for Miracle League Playground

Join Civitans as major donors.

On Monday, the Mauldin Miracle League Playground received its second major donation in less than month.

In a ceremony at Sunset Park at the site of the new playground, representatives from BI-LO and Coca-Cola Bottling of the Upstate presented a check for $60,000 to Miracle League Founder and Mauldin Mayor Dennis Raines.

Last month, the Civitans of Greenville pledged $200,000 for the project which will result in a playground being built that will be accessible for children with special needs.

Raines said he is still attempting to raise more money to pay for a roof that will keep three-fourths of the playground in the shade and protected from extreme heat. He said an additonal $20,000 would cover that cost.

Maggie Painter, one of the future users of the playground, said, "I can't believe it's actually happening. It's so wonderful I can't wait to see it."

Raines said the playground is expected to ready for a June 2 ribbon-cutting. A public work day is slated for May 19.

In attendance for BI-LO was Carol Browning, executive director of BI-LO Charities, Inc and Anthea Jones, Senior VP of Store Operations. Representing Coca-Cola were Joseph Grande, regional marketing manager and Jamie Mann, director of customer development.
