From Augusta Road Ruritan Club:
Sixty years ago, Augusta Road Ruritan Club (ARRC) members were enlisting members to build a civic club that would serve the needs of the Highway 25 corridor in southern Greenville County. They built a successful Club, but only one charter member remains alive today - O.R. "Richard" Cothran.
As a part of its 60th year celebration, ARRC President Terry Creamer recently presented a plaque to Richard Cothran to mark his 60 years of Ruritan service. Richard expressed his appreciation for the award, and pointed out, "We organized to help improve our community and the South Greenville Fire Department may be our greatest legacy. I can't believe the 60 years have passed like a flash!"
Terry noted that "The Augusta Road Club is very appreciative of Richard's quiet manner and servant heart. No one knows the exact number of hours that Richard logged in serving as Club Treasurer, working on community projects and impacting people in our community. But my guess is that he served over 12,000 hours.
Richard is a role model for all of us in the ARRC today. We are looking for men and women to join us today and to make a major impact just as he has done."Persons interested in joining ARRC may call Willis Creamer at 864-243-1910.
